About AMMTIAC
The Advanced Materials, Manufacturing, and Testing Information Analysis Center (AMMTIAC)
is the DoD Center of Excellence responsible for acquiring, archiving, analyzing, synthesizing,
and disseminating scientific and technical information related to advanced materials,
manufacturing, and testing (AMMT).
AMMTIAC meets the needs of the warfighter as well as
those of the greater advanced materials, manufacturing, and testing community by providing
comprehensive support to the nation's defense systems and infrastructure across the entire
life-cycle.
The AMMTIAC Knowledge Base
AMMTIAC maintains DoD's knowledge base in AMMT technology in an extensive library offering nearly
300,000 technical reports, research papers, and reference books. A wide-ranging data-acquisition
program continually adds reports to the library that are developed by the military Services, thus
ensuring the collection's relevance and currency to both newly emerging DoD requirements and fielded
assets. AMMTIAC's interdisciplinary engineering staff is world class at employing the available
knowledge base to ensure that smart program decisions are made at both technology and systems levels.
AMMTIAC helps acquisition and sustainment programs reduce risk when developing and fielding systems
and infrastructure by making them more affordable and maintainable, maximizing their service life,
increasing readiness, and enhancing operational safety. AMMTIAC offers the following services to
meet these goals:
Technology Services
AMMTIAC is DoD's repository of materials, manufacturing, and testing technology. Our exclusive,
immediate access to DoD's legacy knowledge base and our in-depth qualifications in these enabling
technologies help clients identify and avoid using problematic materials, processes, and assessment
methods that can lead to unplanned (and unbudgeted) maintenance costs, shorter system life-cycles,
and reduced readiness of DoD systems.
Engineering System Support
Our broad technical expertise allows us to provide direct engineering support to clients in numerous
specialized technologies. Examples include corrosion, armor and ballistic protection, thermal-protection
systems, anti-mine technology, rapid prototyping, low-volume productivity, condition-based maintenance,
and real-time health monitoring.
Technology Assessments
Improving the reliability of fielded assets is often a reason to search for new approaches, and
technology insertion can be an effective way to reduce O&M costs. However, introducing new
technologies without first assessing their viability carries considerable risk. We routinely assess
new technologies to determine their suitability for specific applications.
Technology Transfer
AMMTIAC assists DoD's AMMT research communities by providing access to critical enabling technologies
in various ways. The AMMTIAC Quarterly, for example, is a widely distributed technical publication that
is highly regarded within these communities. It highlights cutting-edge research projects sponsored by
the Services and related government activities. AMMTIAC also provides direct online access to a variety
of databases and information systems to directly support the research, development, acquisition, and
sustainment communities.
